Project DistARCTIC held successful online workshop focused on pedagogical practices in rural education
DistARCTIC project aims to open new horizons on rural education in the Arctic. The project is part of activities of UArctic Thematic Network Teacher Education for Social Justice and Diversity.
The DistARCTIC (Distance Teaching and Learning in the Arctic Communities) project recently hosted a successful online workshop focused on pedagogical practices in rural education. The workshop included presentations on desktop study articles, which have been submitted for review. One of the articles is published on Journal of Teacher Education and Educators (2022) titled "Development of Teacher Self-Efficacy for Teaching in Rural Schools in The Circumpolar North: Lessons for Teacher Education" (K. Vijayavarathan-R, E. Óskarsdóttir, M. Beaton, T. Turunen, O. Kagan, N. Flotskaya, S. Bulanova). The article can be found at: https://dergipark.org.tr/en/pub/jtee/issue/75078/1181294.
One of the objectives of the project is to secure funding for research activities, and the workshop provided an opportunity for collaborative work on funding applications. Additionally, the project aims to develop a book proposal for the next publication of the network, with a focus on pedagogical practices in online/distance teaching and learning. The editors of the book were selected to lead the book proposal process.
Looking ahead, the DistARCTIC project's next workshop is scheduled to take place in Leeds, England, at Leeds Beckett University on June 18-21, 2023.
